After your puppy is done with potty training, how to train your puppy to sit is most likely the next thing you will teach your pup. You can start this training process as soon as the puppy is comfortable with his new home. I have here several tips that can help you on how to train your puppy to sit. Just remember to be patient with your four legged friend.

Start by saying “sit” every time you see the puppy sit by himself. He will learn to connect the word sit with the action he is doing. This is a basic tip you can use all throughout the training process.

Get his favorite toy or treat and hold it in your hand. Most trainers use sausage, and most of the time, it does do the trick. But you must remember to cut it to bite size pieces in order for the puppy to swallow it quickly.

Everytime you train, you must get to the same height as your puppy. Sitting is recommended for you to become less threatening to his eyes. You also need to be close to your pup so that you can give him his reward faster.

Slowly dangle the treat over the head of your puppy. The aim is for the puppy to smell the treat and follow it with using his nose. Now he has two choices. He can either stand or sit. He will eventually realize that it is easier to sit down.

When he starts to sit, use the command “sit” and reward him with a piece of sausage. This is the golden key to training your puppy. A reward has to be given right after the puppy does what you want it to do.

Praise your puppy. Show how much you appreciate what your puppy just did through body language and tone of voice.

Repeat these training methods 3 to 5 times. Do not overdo it though for it might teach your dog to just beg. You can replicate the steps a few times in one day.

Once you see that your puppy is slowly becoming more responsive to the training, try these steps with you standing up. Check to see if your puppy reacts to the word “sit” without the use of a treat. If he still follows your command, then you apparently must praise him. But if he does not, just be patient and go over the steps again. Never show your puppy that you are disappointed. I know this may sound strange, but you need to have a positive attitude on how to train your puppy to sit in order to encourage him.

If you think that training your puppy is difficult, it is not. It is your method of handling and training of your puppy that will make the training process difficult or easy. The following tips below will aid you in making the training easier and more enjoyable for both of you.

Keep An Eye On Your Puppy At All Times

If you consistently keep an eye on your puppy, he won’t be able to do its business inside the house, nor can he chew things up. You will also be able to quickly take him out whenever he needs to go.

If you cannot always keep an eye on your little friend, think of investing in a good crate for your puppy.

Let Your Puppy Carry His Leash

Purchase a 5-6 foot nylon web leash and let your four legged friend carry it around. Use puppy leash training such as standing on the leash to restrict the movement of your puppy so that he stays just around you. Tether the puppy to a solid object so that he won’t be going anywhere while you are busy.

Pet Your Pet

Rub their ears, pick them up and check their belly, touch their paws, check their teeth, and touch their hind end. These actions will make them more comfortable when they go to the vet, when handled by groomers, and especially played with by children.

Let Your Fur Ball Socialize

Socializing your puppy early on is essential for his proper development. If you do not let them explore the world outside you or your yard, they will never understand how to conduct themselves whenever they are in a public place. Socialize your puppy by the time he hits 8 weeks and continue his socialization until he becomes more mature.

Customarily, you can begin socializing your puppy with other dogs after he has begun taking his second set of shots. It is advised to consult a vet with regards to safety precautions for younger puppies.

Motivation Is The Key In Training Your Puppy

Motivation is used in teaching basic things like lie down, sit, and roll over. Teaching your puppy these commands are very good ways to formally begin training your puppy. For a puppy to roll and sit, it is showing you submissive positions that can help him learn how to remain calm and look at you as superior to him when he gets older. Through positive reinforcement and motivational methods you can work with almost any dog regardless of age.

Employ Hand Signals

Together with verbal commands, use hand signals. This will aid your puppy in understanding what you want them to do. Dogs are adept at reading body language. With that said, it totally makes sense to use it early on in training your puppy.

Barking is an inherent characteristic of puppies and dogs for that matter. When you expect or want them to stop barking, it’s like asking them to stop breathing. But there are some puppies who bark more than others. In this article, you will be learning some puppy training tips on how to minimize barking.

Barking is your puppy’s way of communicating with people. If they see their masters, they want to acknowledge their presence through barking. The environment may also make them bark, not just their masters. It apparently shows excitement and their need for attention. They also bark as a defense mechanism when they see a threat to protect his or her territory.

The puppy training tips that you will be reading about is how to prevent inappropriate barking fits. These are caused by anxiety or sadness, either from being left alone for a long time or from seeing strangers and other stimuli (i.e. seeking for attention and being merely excessively energetic). Here are a few tricks that you can use to effectively train them.

Tire Out Your Puppy

As mentioned above, one of the causes of inappropriate barking is excessive energy. You will want to help him release these pent-up energies through regular exercise and puppy play. You can walk him in your street or at the park for at least 30 minutes a day. You may also run with him if you wish. However, don’t leave them running or playing alone inside the house or in your yard because his energy reserves will just escalate. Using exercise and play will tire them out and hence will make them quieter or go to sleep. Once he has quieted down, don’t forget to praise him or give him some of his favorite treats. This is one way of encouraging quiet time.

Use A Settle Down Command

When you’re starting to teach them to respond on command, it may be quite a challenge at first. Be patient. Treats can be used in conjunction with the verbal command. Whenever he starts barking, sternly order him to “Settle Down”. If he does respond to this command for at least 5 seconds at the first few tries, give him some treats. Don’t use the “NO” or “Stop” command because these are too general. If your puppy has learned other commands such as, “stay”, “sit” or “lie down”, you can also use this in conjunction with your “no barking” or “settle down” command. It’s another method of controlling his barking fits.

Consistency

One of the most important puppy training tips, and it applies to all training in general, is consistency. Keep in mind that puppies are creatures of habit and routines. Once you are consistent, so will their behavior. Involve the members of the household when you are training your puppy. Tell them about the process and the words that you use. Make sure that they are using the same words so the puppy won’t be confused.

Puppy toilet training is fairly uncomplicated due to the fact that the mother has by now educated them to leave the bed or sleeping area everytime they do their business. To follow through on this programming, it is imperative to control the area where you puppy sleeps in. If your puppy can gain access to a whole room during the night, it will be comprehendable to think that he will use a part of that room as his personal toilet space.

With that thought in mind, it is wise for a new puppy owner to invest in a puppy crate. To make your puppy want to use that crate, you must make it comfortable and warm with soft bedding and never close the door. Persuade your puppy to go into the crate and use it. Also feed him food in there. These actions will make your puppy treat his crate as a sanctuary where he feels safe. Puppies that have established its crate as his den will not want to soil it. So with this, you have already simplified the process of puppy toilet training.

The following puppy toilet training tips might help:

Do not feed your puppy after 6pm. This action will curb the need for your puppy to have to go potty throughout the night.

Take your puppy out as late as possible in the evening before going to bed.

Take your puppy out again if you have time in the middle of the night.

Wake up early and take your puppy out immediately.

The tips above lower the risk of your puppy having an accident and will ensure that puppy toilet training will be more successful. Keep an eye out for signs when your puppy wants to do his business. The most common of these signs is, sniffing and turning around in circles. When you see your puppy do this, take him outside immediately. The most likely times your puppy would need to go are just after he wakes up, after playing, and after drinking and eating. Everytime you take your puppy outside, be ready to wait for some time as it may take him awhile to do his business for puppies are easily distracted. Always use a command word and praise him everytime he does his business outside.

When puppy toilet training, in the event that your puppy has an accident, make sure to clean it up immediately and appropriately. Disinfectants only mask the scent but do not neutralize it. So for a puppy, that spot will still smell like a toilet, thus encouraging him to do his business there again. Try using a cleaner specifically for this type of accident as it will lessen the chance that your puppy will go there again.

House training puppies is the first of many challenges that a new puppy owner goes through. You must understand and accept the fact that owning a puppy is a major task and puppy potty training is an important step in its training. They maybe adorable, cute, and cuddly but you have to play the role of a teacher too.

As a new puppy owner, your primary task is to teach your puppy the concept that your house is not his restroom. Trust me when I say that you need a lot of patience and perseverance in house training puppies. In this article, I will give you the Do’s and Dont’s of house training puppies.

HOUSE TRAINING DO’s

Always think of your puppy as an equivalent of a human baby and that it too needs to eliminate frequently.

You have to take your puppy out every couple hours during its normal waking hours. Also immediately after waking, playing, eating, and everytime your puppy starts “rooting” around or appears to be anxious. You puppy also needs to be let out before he goes to bed at night.

You must take your puppy to the same place each time it needs to do its business.

Immediately after it does its business in the appropriate place, praise and reward him with a treat.

You must allow your puppy to go several times before bringing him back into the house. Puppies are not capable of releasing all the contents of its bladder and bowels at one go. If you bring it back before it gets rid of everything, I’m pretty sure you will find a little surprise after.

Make a loud racket to startle your puppy if you see him in about to eliminate in an improper area. Quickly scoop and take him to the place where you want him to finish his business.

Meticulously clean areas he did his business with a disinfectant and/or odor neutralizer.

Feeding time for your puppy must be consistent everyday. This will standardize bowel movements so you can predict when he needs to go.

HOUSE TRAINING DONT’s

Punish your puppy when it has an accident. You must take into consideration that puppies do not have the capacity to comprehend that they did something wrong. This might make him think that urinating or defecating is bad.

Take your puppy over to the place where it did its business and show it to him. To a puppy, this is meaningless and will only confuse it more. In addition, their train of thought is very limited, and chances are, he will not understand the message you want to convey.

Put your puppy outside by itself to do its business. Immediately after he does his business, praise him. If you don’t do this, he will not learn that what he is doing is a good thing. Always remember, their train of thought is very limited.

By following these tips on house training puppies you are sure to quickly pass this phase to have a wonderful family companion that has good habits ingrained in him.

A puppy crate for your little pup is nothing more than the modern equivalent of a den. Before humans domesticated dogs, the den was the place where they got the feeling of seclusion and privacy. Although the modern dog has somewhat reached a level of complete domestication, some of their wild traits still remains. And the desire to have your own little lair is one of those traits.

Having a puppy crate has many advantages. The most important is the fact that it is a very important training tool for puppy potty training. Individuals who do not use this training tool find it harder to train their puppies and have high puppy related accidents in the house. These crates are also a god sent when it comes to transporting your pets. When a dog finds itself in an environment that is not familiar to them, a crate can help them feel comfortable and safe. Aside from improving your chances of getting into a hotel that is not that strict when it comes to pets, most landlords only allow crate trained dogs on their premises.

Ideal puppy crates should be portable and light, and made of meshed wire or plastic. When your puppy reaches the point where he or she is house trained, you can just leave the crate door open. The puppy can then use this as his indoor dog house.

How to Crate Train Your Puppy

You have to be a bit patient when it comes to crate training your puppy. First, the pup will reject being locked inside the puppy crate. Expect your puppy to have lots of yelping and tantrums for it will not readily accept the concept of being locked in. Resist the temptation of removing your puppy out of the crate for it will just set the training back. Just give a stern “no” everytime until your dog gets used to the idea of being inside a confined space.

A good method of getting your puppy to quickly adjust to this training is through the use of toys. Give your puppy chew toys to keep him occupied. Remember to keep changing your puppy’s chew toy for dogs get bored easily with the same toy.

How Long Do You Keep Your Dog In A Puppy Crate?

Keep your puppy inside the puppy crate for at least two hours at a time. Whenever your puppy is inside the crate, make sure that you are around so that the puppy will feel secure. If you are up for it, you can also move the crate inside your room to speed up this process. Your puppy needs to understand that his being confined inside the crate is not permanent nor a punishment.

Potty training a puppy can be one of the most exasperating things that owners have to deal with. As the owner, just hope that once you have placed all your efforts to potty train your pup, you won’t have to go through it again. There are many puppy potty training tips one can use to go about potty training.

The use of these puppy potty training tips will help your puppy not to do his business inside the house. It will even also create a firm connection of faith and attachment between you and your furry friend.

Below are a few puppy potty training tips to aid you how to effectively potty train your puppy.

Crate

Start crate training puppies the instant they step into your house. Pick a crate that is suitable for the size of your puppy. Talk with your veterinarian, pet store, or breeder, when picking a crate for your little friend. This does not mean though that you leave your pup inside the crate for hours on end. Your puppy’s crate must be a comfortable place for your four legged friend, where he can willingly retreat to. Whenever you go to bed at night, leave the puppy inside the crate. Usually, a puppy will not do his business while he is inside his crate. You may want to get up a few times in the middle of the night for a few weeks to take your puppy outside, as he may not be able to at times, to hold his bodily functions for the entire night. Once you wake up in the morning, bring your puppy outside to do his business. Making him walk to the door by himself can lead to you being grumpy early in the morning.

Training Pads

Put puppy training pads or newspapers on the floor around the area where you want to keep your puppy. If workable, limit the movement of your puppy in an un-carpeted area so that it will be easier for you to clean if he makes a mess. Puppy training pads are easier to use than newspaper because the urine will not seep through the pad. If you choose to use newspapers, it is a cheaper alternative. But prepare yourself for some frequent floor mopping. If you prefer to use puppy training pads, start using them right away. If you use them from the start, by the time your puppy becomes more mature, he might think the pads are a new toy and just it as a chew toy. The instant your puppy starts to relieve himself, scoop him up and put him on the newspaper or pad. Never yell at or scold your puppy if he does not go in the right area. What you should do is just encourage him everytime he goes on the pad or paper. In time, the pad or paper can be placed near the door.

Reward

Take your puppy outdoors for regular potty breaks and carry a small treat with you. Once your puppy relieves himself outside, praise him and give him a reward. In time your puppy will learn that he must go outside to do his business.

Hopefully these puppy potty training tips will help you with your own puppy potty training. It does pay to start the process much earlier as it is always much easier to train a puppy rather than a full grown dog.

The goal of puppy potty training is to make certain that your puppy will always do its business outdoors, at a specified potty area, rather than indoors. That is unless you are living in a high rise apartment. If that’s the case, then you should consider indoor potty training.

Dog training and specifically, puppy potty training needs a great deal of patience and consistency from its owner or trainer. A few of these puppies, particularly the smaller breeds, can be a bit more arduous to toilet train rather than larger breeds. But then again, you will be happy to know that almost all dogs are clever enough to become fully potty trained.

By the time your puppy arrives at your home from the breeder, it should already have been exposed to and has become accustomed to a sanitary environment. The reason for this is due to the fact that as your puppy gets bigger and a bit livelier, the breeder would have already taken him outside. By now your pup would have already learned to do its business outside. This would make your puppy more likely to keep to your household cleanliness regulation.

Below are two basic tips on puppy potty training. When I use the following tips when it comes time to training my puppy, I find that it greatly decrease the chance of my puppy using my carpet as his personal rest room. Hopefully you will find the same thing when you start training.

Establish A Potty Area

Once your puppy arrives home, you must straight away institute a certain potty area for your pup. This particular potty area must be separate from the whole of your yard by a fence, or rows of plants. This will keep kids from play in the potty area and also create a border from the rest of the yard.

Most dog trainers deem the use of specific potty area technique as counterproductive for your pup. The rationale is that, accustoming a pup to a particular potty area will disable him to do its business if he finds himself in an unfamiliar place. But then again, puppies are normally flexible and can adapt quickly. So it is still best for you to ascertain a special outdoor potty area during the potty training process.

Teach Your Puppy Potty Cues

After you have picked a specific potty area in your yard, it’s now time to school your puppy with puppy commands or potty cues. Start by training him the command “outside” whenever you see him do his business outside of the designated potty area.

Always use a firm tone when you use the command “outside”. The idea is to startle him to a point where he will stop eliminating. You must then quickly take your puppy outside to his potty area for him to finish eliminating. After, praise him for eliminating in the proper area.

By using these puppy potty training tips you will shorten the learning curve for your puppy as well as preserve your homes flooring making it a win-win for both you and your puppy!

Crate training puppies must start as soon as your new puppy arrives home. Be it an adult or puppy, your dog must understand that there is a specific place in which he is meant to settle when needed.

The necessity of crate training puppies should start right away so that the puppy will become immediately aware of proper discipline. It is pointless to train a new puppy if it has spent as little as a few days with you without the use of a crate. Your puppy needs to be familiar to the crate as an integral part of his life.

Below are some things one must be aware of when it comes to crate training puppies.

What Type of Crate To Use?

You may have a puppy now, but you will want to purchase a crate that is the right size for your puppy once he becomes an adult. It is pointless to buy different sized crates as your puppy grows. Choose a crate that has a large mesh and movable panels. The reason for this is so that the crate can be adjusted to the size of your puppy as he grows.

How Long Does Crate Training Last?

Using a crate to train puppies should take around 2 to 3 weeks. The primary idea regarding crate training puppies is that it must be structured and constant. If you give your puppy a command today with a certain expectation, but issue the same command the following day with an altered expectation, you will end up confusing your puppy. He will eventually fail to learn the command. If this happens, it is not your puppy’s fault, but yours. Your family also plays a big part in puppy training. Family members must go along with a set of directives that everyone should use when they want the puppy to do a specific action. There must be a strict rule that the puppy is neither yelled at nor hit.

Reasons for Crate Training

Crate training is employed by most people as a means of physical domination over their pets. Most pet owners feel that their pet feels safer when they have a place of their own inside the house. There is support for this way of thinking as a lot of crate-trained puppies are very ecstatic to move away from noisy places.

While house training is usually pointed out as the main reason for crate training puppies, it is not really efficient for this purpose. House training a puppy or a much older dog is more about the rapport between dog and master. A few of the training procedures with the use of crates can in fact prolong proper house training. This is because the puppy thinks that he is learning only one skill. But in reality, the owner is in fact teaching him two skills – crate training and house training.

Puppies are new to the world. As with every living thing that is new to the world, it still has to develop a sense of what is acceptable and what is not. One common problem a dog owner goes through is the problem of how to train puppies to pee outside. As what I have stated a while back, puppies are still not able to differentiate the difference of your hard wood floor from that of your garden. Making a puppy understand this difference in space can save you a lot of trouble cleaning up your beloved floor.

So the question still remains. How to train puppies to pee outside? Logically, you can’t talk to them because their dogs. It’s hard enough talking to a person who doesn’t speak your language, much more another species. In this article, I have put together no fuss, straight to the point tips that will instruct you how to train puppies to pee outside.

Start small – Your puppies should learn to understand that your house is where he lives in. Dogs have it in their system not to pee where they live. If you can make your puppy understand that your living room is also their living room, and you kitchen is also theirs. Offer them an alternative place where they can pee such as puppy training pads.

Watch Your Puppy – Just like human kids, puppies gives off signals that it is about to pee. If you see your puppy sniffing around, sitting and then suddenly stand up, whimpering, or leaves their play area, chances are the pup may have to go. When you see this, take the puppy outside.

Timing and Conditioning – Your puppy should be trained to have specific times when it can do its business. Take the pup outside every morning after waking, long naps, and especially after eating. This will condition the puppy to do its business right after these activities. And it will give you time to narrow down when to let your puppy out.

Discipline and Praise – After your puppy does its business outside, give it a little treat and praise. This will make the puppy understand that it just did a good thing. If your puppy does pee inside, make it understand that it did something wrong. Take it to the puddle of pee and make it understand that what it did was wrong with a stern voice.

Consistency – Being consistent is probably the number one way on how to train puppies to pee outside. You can’t just say, “I’ll skip it today and do it tomorrow”. Not being consistent in your training would just lengthen the training process for both you and your puppy
