Is Puppy Obedience Training Necessary?

Puppy obedience training is one of the best things you can offer your new little puppy. Although obedience training does not eliminate every behavioral problem your puppy might have, it is the bedrock for solving almost all behavioral issues. Training is the catalyst for opening a line of communication between your dog and you. Efficient communication is needed to tell your puppy what you want it to do, like sit, stay, and stay off. “Off” by the way is a command telling your puppy to stop chewing the couch or your shoe.
Dogs that do not undergo puppy obedience training won’t have any idea what is good or bad. They will destroy your belongings, do their business inside your house, dig holes in your yard, fight other dogs, bark excessively, and sometimes can even bite you. Almost all behavioral problems are absolutely normal canine behaviors that strike at the wrong place or time. To state my point, a dog will do its business on the carpet instead of the lawn; a dog will howl and bark all throughout the night rather than when a stranger is going around outside your house; or a dog will chew on your shoes or furniture rather than his chew toys. The solution in preventing or treating canine behavior problems is by teaching the dog to focus its natural behavior to things or outlets that are suitable by our standards.
Puppy obedience training is also the best method in establishing social hierarchy between you and your furry four legged friend. When a dog follows requests like come here, sit; that is a sign that your dog respects you. It is not advisable to prove yourself as the leader of the pack by using extreme and physical methods. You can establish your dog’s subordinate role by teaching it to do things like paw raise, or roll over. A majority of dogs love performing these tricks for you, acknowledging that you are in charge.
Puppy obedience training must be made fun, and rewarding for both your dog and you. It can improve the relationship you have with your dog, and will make your dog a pet that you will cherish. There are people who debate over if it is possible to train puppies, and if it is possible to teach old dogs new tricks. The answer to both is a definite yes. The right time to start training your dog is right now. The most crucial time in your dog’s life is during its infancy.
