For those of use who work and need to keep our pets in a controlled area when we can’t watch for accidents, this pet pen is a livesaver, and my dog absolutely loves it. There’s enough room for a small oil-filled heater, her large burrow bed and blankets, water bowl, bone-chewing/play area. Also, I sectioned off a small area for her potty pads, so she doesn’t have to “hold it” when I’m gone for longer periods of time. The pen is so roomy, that there’s plenty of distance between the potty pads, her bed, and water dish. You can also customizing the shape of the pen. It’s the greatest!

In terms of waterproofing, I lined the bottom with a shower curtain from the dollar store and topped with a queen-sized quilt. It’s soft and comfy and accident-proof! Even my cat sneaks in there to catch a few winks.

This is so much better than a kennel or keeping your pet in the bathroom while you’re away.

PRODUCT UPDATE: October 3, 2009

The Iris pen has stood the test of time, and has saved my dog from having to be in a confined, oppressive area while I’m away at work during the day. Today, I am purchasing another of these pens, which will serve as fencing around the patio of my small cottage. Can’t think of a more perfect weather resistant, durable, SAFE fence for my dog (and cat who can’t jump high distances) to play within outdoors. Two of these pens linked together will provide a rather large fenced area (over 12 feet).

Believe that from a distance, the fencing might appear as a picket fence. This will not only serve to keep the pets safe, but will look sharp and never dry rot or warp. Seriously, this is the most versatile, liberating pet product on the market. Can’t wait to see my pets coming and going through their own pet door into the fenced patio, and be outside whenever they please to catch the late morning/afternoon sun (when it’s out!). Will cover a portion of the fencing with some type of tarp for when it rains.

How cool is this product? Still say this is the best purchase I’ve ever made on Amazon, and I buy lots of stuff.

I highly recommend this for younger walkers and crawlers because it really is a strong gate. As your child gets to the age where he learns how to climb, however, beware because the mesh gives little ones a good foot hold. Even though my nephew learned how to climb over the gate, it never fell over (due to his weight) – proof that it is an extremely sturdy product despite the fact that it latches on due to pressure alone! So I give it a four. It’s a great product for the price you pay but it is not perfect in design. Oh, and another thing, try not to let your little ones watch you set up the gate… they learn real fast once their problem solving capabilities kick in!

We chose this gate based on its price and ease of use. My in-laws had one for their other grandchildren. It fits well in our doorway and seems very secure. I can release it easily, or step over it if necessary. I also liked the fact that it required no hardware mounting into the wall or doorway, since I live in an apartment with a picky landlord. However, my son (10months, with 8 teeth) likes to chew on EVERYTHING, including this gate. … I think this one would work for him quite well once he gets out of the chewing stage. He has also bitten off a few small pieces of wood which makes me nervous. This is a good gate for those whose children don’t gnaw on everything in sight.

Easy to install. The only problem I have is that the space between the bars next to the doorway is wider than the others. That is one thing that needs to be corrected as very small puppies can slide right thru that opening.

We have 2 cats and 3 small dogs (1 Westie & 2 Pugs). Although this product is awesome if you have larger dogs, smaller ones can get through the opening. Even though one of our Pugs has a sizeable noggin, the temptation of getting into the laundry room to “clean up the litter box” is overwhelming to him. He was able to get through the door, but I think the scabs on his neck were worth it to him, because he has gotten through twice.

I had to fasten some straps to narrow the opening so that the cats could still get through, keeping the dogs out.

The gate is great, and it makes adjusting to fit in different door openings a breeze. I just wish there was a similar adjustable door on the gate to keep smaller dogs out. If you have larger dogs, do yourself a favor and pick up one of these! If you have smaller dogs (under 30lbs.), you likely will find yourself trying to rig something like I did.

I needed a gate that allows me to keep my small dogs out of a room but short enough to step over and to allow my disabled cat to get over. The gate is perfect. It is secure in the door which allows my disabled cat to land on the top and then go over. It could be stained to match any wood type or painted. I no longer bang my shin on the gate when I step over yet my dogs can’t jump over into the room. My only complaint is that the pin to latch the door is cludgy.

I had ordered two of these gates, the problem i had was that the pressure mount would not fix securely between the walls on top and baseboards on lower end. Adding to it, our 8 month daughter on her first attempt was able to push it down with her one hand and crawled right on top of it. I eventually ended up returning these back to amazon who were great in acceptin returns.

These gates are a good buy for a small or regular door opening. I’ve found that they fall down and don’t stay secure when you open them wide to fit a larger opening. No problem at all for regular door openings or staircases.

So we have a wonky bottom-of-the-stairs area that needed a gate under 25″ high, and this gate was pretty much it. It looks so junky, and it would be in a high-traffic area, where we’d have to remove it and re-install it several times a day… ugh. But we’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well it works! I can remove it one-handed with my 25-lb toddler in the other arm, and re-install it just as easily. She pulls on it with all her might and can’t dislodge it. The price is right, too. It’s ugly, to be sure, but does the job much better than I’d hoped for.

This gate is inexpensive, which is great, but it is difficult to use unless you enjoy jumping over it a lot. The “memory” feature that is supposed to make it easy to release and replace once you’ve got it set up doesn’t work at all. The process of tightening the gate back down removes the bar that is supposed to keep its “memory.”

In addition, it is very difficult to get a snug fit in any doorway, since you can’t use the level to spread it out, you’ve got to push with your hands and risk mashing your knuckles, which I did a number of times. Eventually, I just gave up and now I essentially lean it against the door frame. This works well enough, but I wouldn’t recommend this gate to anyone.

Overall this is a very nice gate. It looks great, is well built, and is easy to install. And while I like the look of the wood portion of the gate, it unfortunately is a bad idea for puppies or dogs of any age that like to chew or are determined to get out. Within three weeks my 4 month old Beagle had chewed and broke his way through it. So I had to replace it with a gate made solely of metal.

i found this product to be well-constructed and sturdy, easy to set up and use, and best of all it was definitely the best price of any i searched for online. the rubber stoppers prevent any mars or scratches to my doorframe, and keep it in place against the nudgings of my small dog as well as my friend’s 2 year old daughter when she visits. the actual mesh is coated with pretty heavy duty plastic so it wont snap or break, but also wont snag or cut anyone/thing like plain wire might. and the whole piece is so lightweight i can easily maneuver it with one hand. definitely give it a shot.

We got this for our pet rabbit, who gets a whole room to himself. I was skeptical when the fully-assembled gate first arrived because it was light and seemed flimsy, plus the packaging was literally plastic wrapped around the gate, with a paper insert. But once we got the gate into place in a doorway (following the paper’s exact instructions), we were surprised by how secure it was. Seriously, we ourselves (2 able-bodied adults) couldn’t yank it out of the doorway unless we tried really hard.

Some random stuff that may be good to know:

The gate is high enough to keep bunnies from escaping, but is still low enough for us to step over to go into his room. The wood seems to be untreated, which is great for potential gnawers. The wire is coated with white plastic(?) and hasn’t rusted at all, after almost a year of use. The rectangular holes between the wires measure 1×2 inches, and our bunny hasn’t gotten anything stuck so far. Once you figure out which notch to use, getting the gate secured and unsecured is easy enough to do with one hand.

Overall, I think this was a really good investment, and I’m glad we bought this gate.
