Tips On Using Puppy Training Pads

 Puppies are cute we all know that. Bringing a new pup at home is something that most people look forward to.  The first priority that owners have is housebreaking their new companion. This may be a bit challenging and it requires a lot of patience and time from you. Potty training can also be a bit of a challenge and there are various methods that you can use, including crates or puppy training pads. These tools will help your pet identify the appropriate place where he can eliminate without displeasing his master. Training your pup will only be successful if you know where and how to start it.

What Are Puppy Training Pads? 

A puppy training pad is a special pad that is used to cover and protect your carpets and floor. The pad is thick and has an absorbent surface. Most pads are treated with special scents that will entice or lure your puppies to defecate or pee on the pad instead of on your carpet. The scent also protects the floor, carpet and other garments from the pungent smell of the urine that will cling to it. This answers the problem of puppy owners who have been cleaning up after their little trouble-maker. Training pads can also be used by older or sick dogs that are having difficulty holding their bladder.

For those people who prefer using training pads over other potty training methods, the first thing that you should do is to separate or confine your puppy in a separate room. Upon doing so, make sure that your puppy is in a place where it is easy for you to keep an eye on him and what he is doing. The kitchen is usually one of the best places where you can place your pup. If you don’t want to use your kitchen for this process, you may use other areas in your house that are safe.

Afterwhich, the next thing that you should do is introduce the training pad to your puppy by placing it on the floor and showing it to him.  It is encouraged to use the scented pad, which is specifically designed to encourage puppies to eliminate on the pad.   Use the pad everytime you see your puppy trying to pee or poop. If he doesn’t eliminate on the pad, quickly run to him and place him on the training pad. After he pees or poops on the pad, praise him by giving him a pat on the head or saying “Good dog”. You can also give him special treats and other rewards. This way, he will associate the pad with elimination and good behavior with love, treats and attention.  Do this process everytime he eliminates until he is already consistently using the pad by himself.  Keep the rewards and praises coming though.

Lastly, once he has gotten used to eliminating on the pad, you may move it outside of your house. And make sure that he sees you doing this. This way he will have to go out of the house in order to deal with his business.
