Of the many problems a new puppy owner goes through, how to train puppies to do its business outside is the first thing in one’s agenda. With this new addition to your family, your immediate goal of how to potty train a puppy and instill the idea to your puppy that the only place it can do its business is in the yard will be one of the first things that you teach your dog.
It is imperative that you keep a tight bond with the new member of your family right from day one. A carefree viewpoint from your end, or the lack of appropriate interaction between you and your puppy, may affect your training program. So how can you effectively train puppies not to do its business inside your house? To answer your question bluntly, first thing you should consider is your patience. Puppies are like babies. They are new to the world and needs someone to guide them. Once you have conditioned yourself to be patient when it comes to puppy training, then you can start to train puppies to do its business outside.
Make Use Of A Crate
It is very practical to train your puppy using a crate. A puppy crate is used in order to let your puppy have its own sleeping space, as well as training the little fluff ball to be in command of his bodily functions. Puppies instinctively would never do its business in the place where they rest or sleep. Right from the start, you must condition your puppy that you are in control of his potty time.
Go Outside After Each Meal
After finishing every meal, wait for 15 minutes and then take your puppy outside. What goes in must come out. If you wish for your puppy to be trained properly on where to potty, you should allow your puppy to go outside whenever he gets the urge to go and do his business. I should add, you should not make the error of leaving food for your puppy outside. Feed your puppy at a select time. And always take the food bowl away 15 minutes to 30 minutes after your puppy finished eating.
Select A Potty Place
You should pick a spot where your puppy can do his business. Select a secluded place somewhere within your yard. Bring your puppy to that spot everytime he needs to do his business. This will allow your puppy to understand that whenever he feels the need to go, all he needs to do is to go to that specific spot. To add, the scent of urine adds to the factor that would help your puppy do his business.
