House Training Puppies: Is It Necessary?

Puppies are fun to have. Seeing them clumsily run around the house doing the things they do always puts a smile on our faces. But the fun ends once they start doing their business. I know you would agree with me in saying that it’s no fun wiping and disinfecting places where they did their duty. Not to mention the damage that they do to our couch, and precious shoes when teething.
Traning puppies is a must for ever dog owner in order to lessen the problems brought about by having an untrained puppy in the house. If the puppy is conditioned to learn good habits early on, you as an owner won’t have to spend countless hours trying to undo bad habits when your puppy becomes full-grown
In this article, we will talk about toilet training your puppy. Training puppies to learn how to differentiate which places they are supposed to do their business will not only save you the hassle of cleaning after them, but also save you having to replace furniture in your home.
Dogs don’t speak our language. So they try to communicate with us through their actions. Compared to larger and older dogs, puppies have smaller bladders. Because of this, they need to go to the bathroom more often. A sign that your little fluff ball needs to go is when he leaves his “den” . This “den” is where your puppy, his litter, and mother sleeps in. Newly born puppies do eliminate in their dens. But as they get a bit older, this habit gets erased. Dogs never eliminate in their den. So again, when you see your puppy leaving his den, sniffing around, and going in circles, chances are he needs to go.
Have you ever seen anyone running through the house towards the door with his dog at arm’s length? Funny thing to see right? Well, it ain’t funny if you’re the guy doing that. To avoid this humiliating instance ever happening to you, take your puppy out of the house every two to four hours. If the pup does not do his business, then you must keep an eye on his once you bring him back in. Most of the time, a dog will give you at least a minute of warning before he does his business.
Conditioning plays an important role in potty training your pup. Your puppy must not become comfortable in doing his business inside the house. He must be conditioned to think of your house as his “den”. But if the puppy accidentally goes inside your house, do not use physical force on him. Get your puppy, show him the thing he did, and with a stern voice, tell him “NO”. Try to develop in your puppy the skills to recognize the word “NO” as something that is wrong.
Training puppies can be fun. All you need to do is spend more time and be patient with your puppy. You also need to understand that accidents are going to happen. The faster you accept that, the better your training experience will be. Think of puppies as children. They need to be told what’s good and what’s bad. A little patience in your little fluff ball will help shape him into a wonderful companion in the future.
